    About Your Experts

    Martha L. Twaddle, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, HMDC

    Dr. Twaddle earned her medical degree from Indiana University and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Northwestern University, where she was Chief Resident. She is a Clinical Professor at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A leader in her field, she served as AAHPM President (2002–2003) and received its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. She co-chaired the National Consensus Project, guiding the 2018 update of palliative care clinical practice guidelines.

    Ira Byock, MD, FAAHPM

    Ira Byock is a palliative care physician, author, and public advocate for improving care for people living with serious medical conditions. He has been involved in hospice and palliative care since 1978. His research has contributed to conceptual frameworks for the lived experience of illness; measures for subjective quality of life; and counseling methods for life completion and wellbeing. He is a past president of the Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. His books include Dying Well, The Four Things That Matter Most, and The Best Care Possible.

    Judi Lund Person, MPH, CHC

    Judi has worked with providers on hospice regulatory issues for more than 40 years and has developed and updated countless regulatory and compliance resources. She is known for turning regulations into “plain English.” Early in her career, Judi was a part of a small group of advocates that worked for the passage of the Medicare Hospice Benefit in Congress.
